CMS experiences, thoughts & questions

Following up on our meeting last night, I thought it would be good to discuss experiences and insights into the platforms that were presented, or any others for that matter.  Also, if there were any questions that didn't get answered, this would be a good place to post them.

A couple of wordpress points:

Submitted by mattbeck on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 11:13.

I couldn't make it to the meeting, so I'm not sure if these points were covered or not, but here are a couple of things to think about with wordpress.

1. Watch out for fantastico. A lot of hosting companies will let you set up a wordpress blog using it with basically just a couple of clicks. It works great for this, but don't under any circumstances ever let it upgrade your wordpress install. When a new version comes out, there are often special instructions on the upgrade process to avoid problems (usually with popular plugins). It isn't hard to manually upgrade and you'll save yourself a headache by doing it yourself.

2. Check out the Sandbox theme

It is basically an unstyled theme that is standards compliant and easy to work with. Plaintxt put it together specifically for designers to build custom sites with. Generally all you have to worry about is your graphics and css.
